One of the greatest needs I see in our culture for young men and young women is maturing in their faith. We live in a culture that produces “kidults.” It produces young men that can barely care for a pet and certainly not a wife or child.
What does it mean to be a spiritually mature young man or woman? We get our cues for spiritual maturity from Jesus! He was truly human, the God-man, yes. However, he was a perfect human being.
Look at Jesus’s life. He takes responsibility! He’s disciplined. He works a job as a carpenter in his early years (Mark 6:3). That’s responsibility. He doesn’t focus on Himself, but rather takes responsibility for others (Mark 6:34)! We sinned and fell short of the glory of God and Jesus takes responsibility for us (John 3:16). He takes responsibility for His city (John 12). He’s disciplined, getting up while its still dark, spending hours in prayer, escaping the crowds to be with the Father (Matthew 14:23, Mark 1:35, 6:46, Luke 5:16).
Jesus is the true human, the true Adam. We are the flawed ones. As we seek maturity in our walk with the Father, lets take our cues from the author and perfecter of our faith, Jesus Christ, the God-man. Make a new decision for maturity this week. Put down the gaming controllers and take responsibility somewhere.
